This page is superfluous (see Tetragrammaton). If is remains a POV loudspeaker, I will either VFD of redirect/merge. JFW | T@lk 14:55, 22 Oct 2004 (UTC)

On October 27, 2004 the Article was totally written.

Hopefully it accurately makes known the various sources that spelled the Tetragrammaton as "יַהְוֶה", in the 19th and 20th century.

This article is attemting to show that during the 19th century, there were Hebrew vowalized spellings of the Tetragrammaton, other than "יַהְוֶה", that were being investigated by scholars.

The Jewish Encyclopedia of 1901-1906 had yet to agree, that "יַהְוֶה" was the best vowelized Hebrew spelling of the Tetragrammaton.

Seeker, you need to explain who gesenius is, when did he live and why is he important. Also please pay more attention to Wikipedia:Manual of style. Gadykozma 00:42, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Gady,

Wilhelm Gesenius was born in 1786 and died in 1842.

William Gesenius H.W.F. Gesenius' Hebrew Chaldee Lexicon to the Old Testament was first translated to English in 1824,

Since [http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-7/264290/YahwehfromSmithsBibleDictionarylowres.JPG "A DICTIONARY OF THE BIBLE" which was edited By William Smith, and which was published in 1863]notes that Gesenius puntuated YHWH as "יַהְוֶה"

that indicates that the spelling "יַהְוֶה" was already known of in 1842, the year that Gesenius died,

and was possibly known in 1824, when his Lexicon was first translated into English.

I was tryng to indicate just how early, that scholarly sources were aware of the vowelized Hebrew spelling "יַהְוֶה"

Seeker, you are disregarding a large number of Wikipedia conventions. Original research or not, long disclaimers in capitals (PRINT THIS NOW) are really not standard. External links in the article body are really not standard. Personal interpretations and impressions are really not standard.
At the moment the article is one piece of speculation. I suggest it is merged with Tetragrammaton as a seperate paragraph. JFW | T@lk 16:24, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)
JFW, I'd have to oppose your last idea. This is much too detailed to go into the Tetragrammaton page, which already gives too much space to the issue of pronunciation and transcription. I do wish someone would extend its other parts (ineffability, Jewish temple, Jehovah witnesses etc.) Gadykozma 17:02, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Yeah, but this page is spinning out of control while being marginally encyclopedic. I still feel merging is a lot more beneficial than cleanup/attention, and I also have the feeling Seeker02421 is far from done. By the way, if you feel there is already much space devoted to this is Tetragrammaton, this would be an argument in favor of merging given the substantion overlap. An alternative would be VfD-ing this page for an untenable name, POV blasting and overlap with Tetragrammaton. JFW | T@lk 20:36, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)
I haven't quite made up my mind whether this page would be better off deleted or cleaned (and I will definitely not clean it myself), but both are preferable to merging into Tetragrammaton. Gadykozma 20:41, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Gady

The article has been cleaned up using what present Wikipedia abilities that I possess.

I do not know how to link individual footnote #'s to the corresponding individual footnote, but overall the article has been cleaned up somewhat.

My original [non copyrighted] copy of Smith's "A Dictionary of the Bible", has a full page of evidence that "יַהְוֶה" was not Smith's choice as the best vowelized Hebrew spelling of the Tetragrammaton in 1863.

Seeker hi. There are a number of additional rules you should have in mind: Do not use all caps at all. Do not use more than one empty line to separate paragraphs. Gadykozma 00:51, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)
